Cloud Card Tree

I often use index cards as a project management tool to create a task tree for the project at hand. Traditionally, I attach them to a cork board or white board and add lines or string or whatever to make connections. Will it ever be possible to set up a bunch of cards in a space and scan it as a whole, and then zoom into individual cards to get the details?
