Cross Device Syncing and Data Backup, for Scans & Destinations
I would love to have my rocketbook account sync across the devices I use (eg iphone/ipad) so I can see my notes history and upload from either device.
Would also be great o have my scans backed up in the device, so they aren't cleared when logging out.

Steve Schulz MergedIt would be fantastic if Rocketbook had a backup feature, so if you change phones or iPads etc, you could restore your scan library so you don’t loose the scans and ocr attached to the scans.

Jake ReevesTo avoid user privacy concerns associated with storing all the data on a Rocketbook server somewhere (the most fluid experience), it would be nice if we could backup the scan history, destinations and settings in a single compressed file that could be sent to any of the destinations. That way, when upgrading your phone, etc. You would have to lose all that data - especially given that the App is becoming more and more useful for viewing files.
Depending on file size, it would also be nice if this could be set up to be a regular process that happened daily, weekly, etc. -

David HardyYes especially when upgrading to a new phone, your previous scans arent seen on your new phone and therefore lose your OCR scan searching function. it should be a must, how are people using this app when changing phones ?

Jason HI'm guessing this feature request gets most of its upvotes from users like me who discover the issue when switching devices; I'm guessing there would be more votes if users realized this before switching devices.

Connor HayesI would be happy if they were just stored locally on one device. I was very upset to find all my history disappeared when I logged out and back in as a potential fix for another issue.

Aaron RAs someone who is fairly new to Rocketbook, I have loved the experience. I have always taken notes from business meetings and kept them in a spiral notebook in my office. When I found rocketbook, I thought I would be able to replace the notebooks and then have access to my old notes on my phone. Everything was great for the past 3 months, until I bought a new phone and found out that the scans are device-specific and I don't have access to my old scans. This basically makes the rocketbook no better than my old spiral notebooks in my office. I agree with other commenters that if users knew this issue before they upgraded their phones, this would become a much bigger issue.

Kevin KWow what a major failure of understanding how people actually do things.
Like the app, used it, now I have no way to move scans from my old phone to my new phone ?
I've found 2 feature requests, problem with feature ranking is that nobody knows to upvote as last comment indicates so a very necessary feature that anyone who actually knows how the world works ( new phone ? What is that ! ) would have built into it.
Don't need a cloud, just an import of an old data folder from Rocketbook, could be an upload to a Gdrive or just point to a local directory after restore from other phone, but just nothing ?
I'm a bit shocked that it went out the door that way. -

Vanessa MergedI lost so many documents that I had scanned and saved, rather than automatically sending. Rocketbook support told me when you get logged out and have to log back in, they are all gone (for privacy reasons). This should be #1 priority for an update.

Carl P BrewerAn intermediate step could be adding the ability to batch import captures. That way the data is still backed up to my favorites storage locations like DropBox, but I can keep the very useful OCR scan and search functions of the app across account or phone changes. This significantly reduces the scope of the task and eliminates the security concerns.

Christina LI've had my Rocketbook for 2 years now, and I only realized this week that my files are backed up! I used to login using a username, and last night I didn't see that option at all. How heartbreaking. I only hope I sent everything to my Cloud, but I'm not 100% sure. Very disappointing and makes me sick to think I may have lost any scans.

ColleenSeriously disappointed that Rocketbook doesn't move your history when you get a new device. I had to upgrade to a 5G compatible phone and nothing transferred. I can't even download these images back into the app. This is ridiculous.

Jamie LathamI should just be able to connect my app to the file that I uploaded all of my scans into, and be able to retrieve them! My app updated, and it signed me out, so now I can't search for the single page I'm looking for, and I'm having to search through hundreds of pages to find one stupid page! EPIC FAIL ROCKETBOOK!!!

Damian BIn the process of changing over to a new phone, very apprehensive that I cannot transfer the data (history) from the old phone over to the new phone. Really destroys the concept here of scanning and having all your old pages available on your app.
I am not that interested in a cloud backup, I do that with one of my destinations. I would like to be able to transfer all my scans (history) to my new phone so I can access them at all times from the App. -

DannySyncing across multiple devices would be awesome - a rudimentary solution would be if you could export config (settings, destinations) from first device and import into second device. Then second device scan the destinations and build the history from there - probably wouldn't work with email but would cover storage locations. That way basic syncing would work without needing a native cloud solution.

DavidFully agreed with Jake Reeves's suggestion.
Since non-system files on Andriod are accessible by users, it can also be backup (exported) as a local file, copied and imported into the new phone. Since I'm unfaimilar with iOS, will refrain from suggestion for that platform. -

GlennI replaced one phone with another. All the files visible in the app vanish. Highly illogical. I know (now, after wasting tons of time trying to solve the problem) that they are still on Google Drive), but this is very counter-intutitive and I don't use Google Drive on the Android.

DavidHaving some kind of back-up or cross device sync would be amazing. I use my Rocketbook both at work and at home and it would really nice and helpful to be able to see what I scanned on both my phone and tablet and not have to go check an email for an attachment or look for the PDF in my drive account.

Robert Hall1) I made a similar comment on this thread several days ago and it is nowhere to be found.
Just tell me where on my old phone the app and its data are stored and I will just copy it to my new phone. You don't have to change anything. Just tell where it is and what to copy. -

AmandaReally frustrating to lose the scans from my old phone. I love the environmentally friendly rocketbook, but had I known this I would've reconsidered my purchase.

George Van WagnerA sad failure of foresight that this feature is not available. If I'm logged into Rocketbook using my AppleID, and have iCloud as a destination (just as an example) why in the world wouldn't all my mobile devices that are connected to the same AppleID and are iCloud connected see that same folder automatically? Same applies to any cloud storage (Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, etc.) that are destinations for the same Rocketbook account. This is my single biggest disappointment thus far with Rocketbook. If it becomes enough of an inconvenience, that will be enough for me to not recommend that anybody else use the products and service.

Traci HammondI'm new to Rocketbook, and love the experience. I take notes from business meetings and keep them in a spiral notebook in my office. I have not experienced the issue of losing data/scans when changing phone/devices, but I agree with other users that this should be fixed AQAP!

Carrie V.New user of Rocketbook. I was scanning using iPhone and decided today that I would prefer to have on my iPad so I can search and read notes better. Really surprised that when I logged into the iPad that the scans from iPhone weren't there. Like a few others have said, I don't need a separate cloud back-up, I just need to know how to take the storage file from iPhone and import it into the app that is now on iPad.
Please expedite this. No sense in me using iPad if half my notes will be in one app and half will be in the other! And now I can't move to a new phone either?! -

Karthik MLuckily I found this issue BEFORE I created a ton of scans and content ... I had to give my phone in for repair, and switched to a temp phone and was disappointed that the scans on the phone are lost when you logout/login or move the app to another device ...
This has really got me thinking if I should invest my time in this, please understand that having PDF copies of everything is not the same ... I would like an app that shows me my notes, and a pdf backup if required ...
So upvoting, and hoping this feature rolls out soon ...
Some excellent suggestions here about how this can be done, so not repeating those ... anything that allows you to save your work in an intuitive fashion is all that is required. -

Jake LippertWell, I at least am seeing this before I get too into the ecosystem. I don't see why we can't do a full backup to GDrive or similar.
I'll have to really think this out. Definitely putting additional rocketbooks on hold, and now I'm hesitant to recommend it to my team. -
23 Jun, '22
MalikDefinitely would love to see this option. I recently had the app on my work phone log me out accidentally and lost all my history and destinations. I didn't even know that logging out would clear everything. Now I'm worried about my primary use app on my personal phone. Please address this!
Thanks -

Christyl EricksonI typically use two devices, my phone, and my Ipad. When I downloaded the RocketBook app onto my IPad, I logged in thinking my scan history would show up, Unfortunately, it did not. I will send my scans (luckily I just started using the Rocketbook) to my cloud and have access there, but I hate that I will have to start carrying my IPad everywhere! I really wish they could find a fix to this issue. I love the Rocketbook, as I retain information best when I write rather than type, but it may not be any better than a paper notebook if I can't transfer from one device to another.

JDThis is insane. I'm a recent Rocketbook user and fan until I switched phones. Seems like a simple fix as I can send the old note files to my new phone but can't access. Come on Rocketbook folks you can fix this.
-

BlaineAs a temporary work-around, it would be great to be able to export the entire history (including tags and OCR text) into a single zip files that can later be imported back. It's not as elegant as an automatic cross-device sync, but it would at least fill the need until the cross-device sync can be implemented.

Anne deLain W ClarkSomehow my Rocketbook app was deleted from my phone (maybe I accidentally chose it in a cleanup function). I definitely did not do this intentionally. It upsets me that I cannot just go to my note history. PLEASE create this syncing and backup function!!!

BeckyAgree with others, that even just a manual backup/download history option would be great. Specifically for circumstances like changing devices.

GabrielleI just got a new phone and found this out. No scans? Thankfully I still have the old phone. I selected all my scans, clicked Share and shared them with my new phone JUST IN CASE I didn't send one or more of them. They're not in Rocket book on my new phone but they are there. I would definitely back a Backup feature. Backup on old device, Import on new. And it really should have remembered my destinations, too.

Krzysztof StenografowI think the minimum plan is to sync app's config. Rewriting it on next device (eg. I use 2, one is my private and one is from the company I work for) is stupid work. I think the synchronization of scans might be available through the chosen cloud, the app can share to.

ChristaMy response:
Hi Peter,
This news is very disappointing, as I was using this Rocketbook for work and I thought that the Rocketbook product and application were set up in a more reliable and responsible manner than this.
Looking at the customer feedback, it seems that this issue has been ongoing since 2021 and still has not been fixed. It appears that many users are frustrated with this issue, but the only solution since the original post is to encourage users to upvote, rather than Rocketbook coming up with an update to rectify this massive flaw in its design.
Until this is resolved, I do not plan to continue to use this product, as to me the planning and execution of this notebook is too risky for me to use with any valuable information. If this is fixed in the future I may reconsider if I don’t find an alternative product in the meantime. Please express my dissatisfaction to your management.
Best,
Christa -

Christa(1/2) Response form Rocketbook:
Hi Chrsita,
Thank you for reaching out and for you support. Please allow me to apologize, as it sounds like there has been a misunderstanding, here.
The Rocketbook app is not cloud connected across your own devices. So even if you have the same log-in on multiple devices or if you get a new phone, the only scans that show up in your history tab are the scans taken with that specific device. This is also the case with destinations.
For user privacy purposes, Rocketbook does not store any of your notes on our own servers. Your notes are either on your own device or the cloud service you have sent your notes to.
Unfortunately, this also occurs when the app is uninstalled and reinstalled, or logged out of and back into.
We do, however, value your feedback and truly make the majority of our decisions based on customer feedback. You aren't alone in this request, and we hope to address device cross-syncing and -

address device cross-syncing and data back up capabilities in a future app version.
You can also show your support for that addition by upvoting it on our suggestions page at ideas.getrocketbook.com, that specific idea right here. Until then, all of your scans will still be safe and accessible in whichever cloud destination(s) that you've sent them to.
Let me know if you have any questions.

SharonI LOVED Rocketbook and have been recommending it to all my friends for several years! (Ive had AT LEAST 10 people buy the rocketbook because of how well i talk about it to everyone) My phone was ruined the other day so I ordered a new replacement. I AM SO SO FRUSTRATED THAT NONE OF MY SCANS TRANSFERRED! So I just lost all of that data?! Literally the Rocketbook is utterly useless without this feature. I will never recommend this again and am currently trying to find a different notebook that's from this century and knows this is a 100% necessary feature in this day and age. I am so so upset right now.

Blaine WilliamsI worry about losing my history and tags when I eventually have to reset my phone. The ability to backup the entire history to a cloud location would be awesome. That would make the RocketBook app more useful in a long term sense.

Robyn VealI’ve been researching Rocketbook. I’m an experienced Apple user. I use Dropbox and Asana. Apple Notes occasionally. I also often have to use speech to text (arthritic hands). Changing phones and losing all the history? Does this include the more recent Apple phone option where new phone can just be set up as complete copy of old one? If RB history is ‘lost’ even then - you must be tying app very tightly to a specific device. You’d have to actually program that in. Why? Security / privacy is ultimately up to the user these days. Is it a marketing thing? Or a way to keep your server use
down? This is a big enough lack for me NOT to PURCHASE. And not to recommend to my students. It is entirely fixable - so you must have a reason. (Are you able to reply plse?) This lack of functionality should be declared up front. Not hidden away in user comments - which few newbies or prospectives are likely to find. It’s false
representation ‘by omission.’ Charge for it if nec. -

AjwIt blows my mind that there isn't an export and import feature to allow me to keep my scan history in the Rocketbook App. I use the search tool in the app all the time to search across ALL documents that I have ever scanned - now if I want to find something I have to go to each destination that I have sent a document and perform a different scan that isn't as effective as what you provide in the app. No cloud service is needed simply an export/import function to allow transfer from one device to another - PS it needs to work from Android to iOS and iOS to Android - For as big as you are and want to be how can you not have figured this out by now? PLEASE MAKE THIS A TOP PRIORITY!!!
